Draws blood specimens from all ages and categories of patients and donors in the Medical Center for analysis or other medical purposes. Perform limited bedside testing including glucometer and bleeding times. Performs and documents daily maintenance and quality control on any analyzers used. Verifies or records patient identification and communicates with patients and their families in a courteous, professional, empathetic manner. May route phlebotomy orders, communicate with others regarding blood collections, order supplies and assist with the processing of outpatients and general clerical functions.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
Licensure, Registration, Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS) from an approved American Heart Association training program or CPR for the Professional Rescuer from the American Red Cross.
High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
Strong phlebotomy skills.
Qualifications and Skills:
Requires human relations and communication skills. Must be self-motivated and have good organizational skills. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide the care appropriate to age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patientís status in addition to being able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patientís requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs.
